Thomas Tuchel has been addressing the media at Cobham ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Atlético Madrid.
This is the best of what he had to say.
“Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic are in the group. They have trained with us and there are no complaints.
“Thiago Silva is not in the squad because he hasn’t trained.”
“We decided to speak to Callum in front of the whole group not alone. For us it was not a big thing.
“I know it can be sometimes. Still I did it and we had the only reaction we wanted he went back to a good mood and trained well. This is the lesson for us to learn.
“Now we move on and it is forgotten. Business as usual, no big deal. He’ll travel with us for the next game.”
“I understand why Thiago [Silva] feels like this. As a coach I’ve never felt like this.
“In Paris, a lot of judgement is made of player by the Champions League. Everyone expects you to win the league and cup competitions so I understand why Thiago says that.
“As a coach, you know it takes a certain level to win competitions. I felt it was a big challenge to be champions every year in France and reach cup finals. You feel it every day.
“From the outside, I understand why he feels like this. The Premier League for Chelsea is of much bigger value than Ligue 1 is for Paris Saint-Germain.”
“It’s a big test. They are an experienced club at his level, an experienced coach. Hopefully it brings out the best in us.
“We will do things our way. They will do things their way. It’s clear what you get when you play Atlético: fighting, experience, a team with a good mentality.”
“We are well equipped in our squad. I love what I feel, love what I see. The hunger to compete, a strong bond, a strong club.
“I’m very happy to arrive in Bucharest the feeling is we are ready and trust the boys on the pitch.”
