Thomas Tuchel has confirmed a surprise name will earn a starting spot during Bayern Munich’s clash with Preußen MĂŒnster in the DFB Pokal.

Usual starting goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is still recovering from a skiing accident last season, and the vacant position has forced the Bundesliga leaders to make some adjustments.

According to the manager, summer signing Daniel Peretz will subsequently be the one between the sticks tomorrow.

“Because I worked abroad, I’m used to things where the second-choice goalkeeper gets a chance in the cup. That’s important for Daniel. His behaviour is top,” said Tuchel.

“Our whole goalkeeping team is a super unit that pushes each other. Sven Ulreich has [also] been doing a great job.

“Daniel deserves it. It’s been discussed with him and our goalkeeping coach. We signed Daniel with big hopes for the future.”

Even while handing the 23-year-old his club debut, the boss reassured Bayern will not take their opponent (who play tier three football in Germany) less seriously.

“I don’t care much about their previous results. They will set up differently against us. They have nothing to lose and will play without pressure. We want to have possession of the ball and not allow any counterattacks. They will fight as a unit to create an upset.

“The format of the competition is just amazing. The knockout games mean pressure. The underdogs always have the chance. You always have to find a way to win. That’s what we expect from ourselves. We have to prove that.”

Last season, Bayern finished their run in the quarter-finals.
