Thomas Tuchel has claimed Chelsea have fallen behind Tottenham after a chaotic few months at Stamford Bridge.
The two sides meet in a derby on Sunday in what could rightly be seen as an early season top-four six-pointer.
Tottenham have enjoyed a successful summer to date, with the North London club making some shrewd signings in the transfer market.
Chelsea, on the other hand, are still adjusting to life under new co-owner and sporting director Todd Boehly.
“They [Tottenham] took advantage of their situation in that they have a stable club, the ownership was clear,” Blues boss Tuchel told a pre-match press conference (via the Daily Mail).
“It was clear that they reached the Champions League and took advantage to reinforce their squad very early. It was very straightforward.
“They had a calm pre-season. The roads were clear. It seems like they are a bit ahead of us from the start — out of the blocks — but it does not mean that you win the race just because you win the start.”
Both Chelsea and Tottenham opened their campaigns with victories last weekend over Everton and Southampton respectively.
