Manchester United’s hopes of signing Marcel Sabitzer on a permanent deal could be hindered following Thomas Tuchel’s appointment at Bayern Munich.

Sabitzer was allowed to leave Bayern on loan during the January transfer window after struggling for regular first-team football under former manager Julian Nagelsmann, but the arrival of Tuchel as head coach could lead to a change in stance on his future.

The Austria international has added depth to Manchester United’s midfield options and is understood to be keen on extending his time at Old Trafford, having made nine appearances in all competitions under Erik ten Hag.

Sabitzer’s loan deal does not include an option to make the move permanent, but Fabrizio Romano has reported that the midfielder is open to a transfer to the Premier League and a decision on his future will be made at Bayern this summer.

The 29-year-old scored his first goal for the Red Devils during the club’s 3-1 win over Fulham before the international break and built on that performance with a brace as Austria beat Azerbaijan in Euro 2024 qualifying.

Sabitzer signed for Bayern in a €16m deal from RB Leipzig in 2021, but failed to earn a regular role in the side. He made just 15 league starts across 18 months with the Bavarians before his loan exit in January.
