When Ferretti took over the interim role in August, he said he would only leave Tigres if he was fired or if Mexico paid his buyout clause and reached an agreement with the Liga MX side.
However, no such agreement will be made. Tigres president Miguel Angel Garza and a member of the Zambrano family (who own the team) have told Ferretti to stay.
“Miguel Garza and Mr. Zambrano told me, ‘You, don’t go. We want you to see out the three years we signed you to.’ That’s how it went,” Ferretti told Fox Deportes.
When asked if there was any possibility he could still manage Mexico, Ferretti replied, “I don’t think so.”
Ferretti said that the FMF’s plan was always to be on the hunt for a manager while he filled in on an interim basis.
“The agreement from the start was that I’m going, but they’re looking for a manager,” he said.
FMF President Yon de Luisa said Mexico has already spoken with well over 20 candidates for the position.
Ferretti will lead Mexico into battle for a pair of October friendlies against Costa Rica and Chile.
Mexico won’t play in another competitive match until June’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
