Manchester United will host Leicester City at Old Trafford on Tuesday and will look to close the gap on Manchester City after the league leaders dropped points in their last game.

The games are coming thick and fast for Manchester United as they travelled to Villa Park on Sunday and are going to face Liverpool 48 hours after welcoming Leicester City to Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stated that he could be forced to use a completely different XI in one of the games, which could be detrimental to a few of the teams vying for the fourth and final Champions League spot.

Manchester United Team News

The reliable and ever-present Harry Maguire picked up an injury in the game against Aston Villa. It was the first time when the United skipper failed to complete 90 minutes since his arrival in 2019.

Currently, there is no date of his return but Solskjaer mentioned that he could be out for “a few days or for a few weeks”.

Anthony Martial and Phil Jones are still on the treatment table. It is highly unlikely either of them will feature for the Red Devils before the end of the season.

Daniel James has also missed recent games due to an injury. The manager said that Wales international might be out “for a little while”.

Defence

Dean Henderson has usurped David De Gea in the Manchester United lineup for the Premier League games. He will keep his place between the sticks.

Maguire’s injury is a big setback for Manchester United. Eric Bailly should come in for him and partner Axel Tuanzebe at the heart of the defence. Victor Lindelof might be rested so that he can start against Liverpool after two days.

Aaron Wan Bissaka and Luke Shaw need some rest. Removing both of them from the XI will expose their backline. However, it is a risk that Solskjaer has to take if he wants to keep his important players fit for the Europa League final on 26th May. We expect Alex Telles and Brandon Williams to operate in the full-back positions.

Midfield

Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay can feature as the two centre midfielders. The biggest decision for the manager will be to start Bruno Fernandes or not.

The Portuguese international has featured in every Premier League game this season and he needs a breather. Donny Van De Beek should replace him at the number 10 spot.

Attack

Mason Greenwood was taken off at the 65th minute of the previous game, which suggests that he could start on the right flank again. Edinson Cavani came off the bench on Sunday and scored his eighth goal in the last seven games. He should lead United’s line against the Foxes.

Marcus Rashford will be trusted to deliver from the left flank. Though, he won’t play for the full 90 minutes. We expect Juan Mata and Bruno Fernandes to come on in the second half.

Amad Diallo is another player who could get some minutes in the second half as he didn’t feature for the club’s under-23 side on Monday.
