Liverpool have genuine interest in Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho, according to The Athletic’s Simon Hughes.

The Englishman has been solid for Dortmund over the past couple of seasons, which has not gone unnoticed.

Sancho, 19, has been linked to a number of clubs recently, including the Reds.

Being a young Englishman historically means Sancho will not come cheap in terms of a transfer fee, but Hughes, who spoke on The Athletic podcast, insists that the Reds have the money to afford the Dortmund star.

“I’ve heard quite a few people say that Liverpool need another forward and I can understand that,” said Hughes.

“It’s quite clear that Liverpool would quite like to sign Jadon Sancho.

“It’s quite clear that they’re monitoring his availability and if he was available, Liverpool would have the money to sign him.

“It’s whether he’s available at that time and whether it correlates with Liverpool’s needs at that time.

“[Liverpool] always have lists of players who are in line to replace players they’ve currently got.”

Sancho would be a superb addition to the current Liverpool squad. He is young and he has plenty of potential. One does get the feeling that he would thrive under Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp has a track record of nurturing and developing young talent, which could arguably be something that Sancho considers when making a decision on his next club.

Liverpool do need to plan for life after the likes of Roberto Firmino,Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Signing Sancho would be a step in that particular direction.
