Arsenal are not working to sign Serge Gnabry this summer as it stands, with the Gunners looking at other targets at the moment.

Late last week, rumours of Arsenal interest in Serge Gnabry sparked back into life as the Daily Star reported that the Gunners and Manchester United were set to lock horns over the winger.

The report claimed that Arsenal and United were the two clubs showing the most interest in Gnabry as it stands.

But the Star isn’t the most reliable outlet, and Fabrizio Romano claims Arsenal aren’t currently working to re-sign their former player.

Romano reports that Gnabry isn’t on Arsenal’s shortlist, as they focus on different targets.

Bayern Munich have made the player a contract offer which is still on the table, with no decision yet. As it stands, the German international’s deal will expire in 2023.

Gnabry may well decide to stick around even if he doesn’t extend his deal, according to previous reports.

Sport1’s Kerry Hau claimed that whilst Gnabry has rejected all previous attempts to extend his contract with Bayern, he still wants to stay with the club.

From Gnabry’s perspective, he’s hoping that going into the final year of his contract without a definitive agreement will be beneficial to him.

The winger could draw some eyeballs at the World Cup before opening pre-contract talks with any interested clubs from January onwards.

For Bayern, that’s the worst-case scenario. They’d get another year of football out of Gnabry, but they’d then lose him on a free transfer.

In 45 appearances for Bayern in 2021/22, Gnabry has reached 17 goals and eight assists, most recently scoring in the game that won them their 10th consecutive Bundesliga title.
