Wesley Fofana appears to have downplayed the severity of the injury which forced him off during Chelsea’s win against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Blues turned in arguably their best performance of the season as they recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory over one of their main rivals for Champions League football.

Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez both scored for the second consecutive week, whilst Cole Palmer was also back amongst the goals.

Fofana seemingly plays down injury severity

Chelsea also recorded their first clean sheet at Stamford Bridge since May, but the only negative on the afternoon was Fofana being forced off in the second half.

Fofana has had a difficult time with injuries since he arrived at Stamford Bridge having missed the entire of last season with an ACL injury and speaking after the game Maresca thought the Frenchman could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

“Unfortunately it is bad news,” Maresca told Chelsea’s website.

“It is a hamstring problem and these kind of things usually require at least three, four or five weeks, but in this moment that means we lose him for 10 or 12 games.”

That would see Fofana miss a number of crucial games over the festive period, although he provided what appeared to be a far more positive update on his social media.

The 23-year-old took to Instagram and said:

“A slight muscle warning, as often happens after long injuries, nothing serious, the body is adjusting. We’ll come back stronger, as always. Trust your guy!”

Fofana has started every league game this season apart from the trip to Liverpool for which he was suspended and losing him would represent a big blow for the Blues.

Depending on how long he’s out for it’s likely Benoit Badiashile will fill the void given he came on against Villa and started the last two games against Leicester and Heidenheim.
