Republic of Ireland youngster Troy Parrott has admitted that he wants to 'impress' Antonio Conte and the rest of Tottenham's staff in pre-season.

The 20-year-old has been in stellar form for his national side and is coming off an impressive campaign in League One with Milton Keynes Dons.

A product of Spurs' academy, Parrott has spent the last two seasons out on loan with three different clubs, and it wasn't until this most recent campaign that he nailed down a starting role, featuring heavily as MK Dons reached the play-offs.

But when asked if there was more of a need for stability and security, he replied: "I can’t control what goes on there. That’s out of my hands."

Parrott added that what he can control is heading back to Hotspur Way for a fresh pre-season under Conte and his staff for the first time.

"All I can do is try to impress whoever is there, and that’s what I fully intend on doing when I go back there for pre-season," he added.

"After two disappointing loans, it is fair to say that things are looking up for me and I am on a bit of an upward trajectory. I just need to keep that going, keep improving and keep giving it all.

"Going on loan is for playing men’s football and realising what you have to do throughout a game, and I think I have matured a lot over the three loans that I’ve had. I am just happy that it is starting to click."

Parrott's current Tottenham contract expires at the end of the 2022/23 season, though the club can trigger a one-year extension clause.

The Irishman has made just four senior appearances for Spurs, with all coming in the 2019/20 campaign. There were claims from fans and pundits that he should have played more due to injuries to Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, but then-boss Jose Mourinho claimed it would have been irresponsible to throw a young player in at the deep end and suggested that supporters didn't even know what Parrott looked like.

Mourinho sent Parrott on loan to Millwall for the first half of the 2020/21 season before he spent the second at Ipswich. Nuno Espirito Santo approved of last season's move to MK Dons.
