Birmingham City came out the other side of a difficult run to pick up seven points from their last three games before the international break.
Wins over Preston North End and West Bromwich Albion along with a draw at home to Coventry City have given the Blues’ start to the season a new outlook, and in that also the club’s first block of fixtures under John Eustace.
The late window additions of Tahith Chong, Hannibal Mejbri and the return to fitness of Krystian Bielik appears to have given the squad a huge lift, and supporters will be optimistic about their chances of survival if they can sustain the performance levels they showed before the break.
Deeney’s move from Watford at the beginning of last season has not been overwhelmingly positive, but the striker is clearly aware of his leadership responsibilities and the crucial role that he can play on the training ground.
The break will provide a good opportunity for Eustace and the squad to reflect on what they have done well in the last few weeks.
