Troy Deeney has claimed Chelsea have got a potential problem brewing with star man Cole Palmer if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
The Blues started the season really well and were second just before Christmas with the chance to go top if they beat Everton.
Enzo Maresca’s men were held to a goalless draw and their form has taken a dip with the Blues currently on a run of two wins from their last nine league matches.
Friday’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton was arguably Chelsea’s worst performance of the season, with the Blues unable to register a shot on target.
Maresca’s side now sit sixth following wins for Manchester City and Bournemouth over the weekend, although they are just a point outside the top four.
Chelsea face a difficult task in qualifying for the Champions League, but Maresca has insisted he was told that wasn’t the target this season.
Palmer is on a run of five games without a goal.
If Chelsea were to miss out on Champions League football it raises the question over whether players will start considering their futures at the club.
Jamie Carragher feels Palmer will want to leave if Chelsea aren’t competing for major trophies and Deeney feels the Blues could have a problem brewing with the 22-year-old.
“They’re a billion-pound team that is still Cole Palmer or nothing,” he told talkSPORT.
“Give it to Cole Palmer and if he’s good, we’re good. When a manager is so blind to it and making excuses the players just eat that up.
“I think there’s a problem brewing with that, if you don’t get Champions League how are you going to keep him happy?”

It’s certainly a valid point and a player of Palmer’s quality should be playing Champions League football, with the England international once again Chelsea’s stand out man with 14 goals and six assists this season.
Palmer hasn’t scored in his last five games in all competitions for the Blues and Chelsea will be desperately hoping he returns to form for Saturday’s huge game against Aston Villa.
