Since his €75m move from Southampton in January, Van Dijk has gone on to become one of the best central defenders in the Premier League.
The Netherlands international has been vital to the Reds perfect start to the campaign, helping the Merseyside outfit to four clean sheets in their first six matches.
And the Hornets striker has revealed what it’s really like to face the 27-year-old.
“I’ve said it many times, I hate him,” Deeney told the BBC.
“I hate going up against him.
“He’s too big, too strong, too quick, too good on the ball, loves fighting, a good head of hair.
“One of those guys that sprays on his top as well, so it smells lovely! When he runs past you, it’s like ‘I can’t catch you, but…’.”
