L’Équipe report in today’s issue that after two years of being held in Israel, the Trophée des Champions is now likely to be held in North America next year.

The match, which marks the start of the domestic French campaign and pits the Ligue 1 champions against the Coupe de France winners, was first played in 1949. Paris Saint-Germain have won nine of the last ten editions, with then-league champions Lille breaking their spell in 2021.

The LFP – the governing body of French professional football – are looking at several options for next summer, but a venue across the pond looks to be the likeliest. The match was previously held in Montreal in 2009 and 2015, as well as New Jersey in 2012.

The choice of destination would suit Paris Saint-Germain in particular, given that they are considering a pre-season tour next summer across the pond as well, notably to make the most of their popularity in the USA.
