Trevoh Chalobah labels Chelsea teammate Reece James as the best wing-back in the world

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah believes his teammate Reece James is the best wing-back in the world (h/t Evening Standard). The former said it after the latter starred in the Blues’ comprehensive 3-0 win over AC Milan in the Champions League.

In a game that had to be won by Chelsea to keep themselves ahead in their Champions League group, James turned up with a goal and an assist along with a solid defensive performance at the right wing-back position, patrolling the area against one of the best wingers Rafael Leao.

Reece James is labelled as the best in his position by teammate Chalobah.

Here’s what the centre-back said about James (h/t Evening Standard):

“I’ve said it from day one. Right now, he could be the best in the world [in that position]. Yes, we are lucky to have him. He is an unbelievable player who can do all sides of the game. He can defend, get us goals and get us assists. It is a pleasure to play with him.”

Chelsea manager Graham Potter was also impressed with the 22-year-old’s performance and backed him to become a club legend in the future,

James has made a great start to the season with two goals and two assists in nine appearances in all competitions. Not only that, the academy product has been in good passing form along with being a steady presence defensively.

Under former manager Thomas Tuchel and so far under Potter, the England international is chiefly part of a back three system, meaning he is playing most of his games as a wing-back, not as a conventional fullback. He has also been used as a wide centre-back in a three-man central defence too.

So, the 22-year-old is not just the best wing-back, but a great asset to the team on both sides of the field. He has a great future not just at Chelsea, but for the national team as well in the biggest tournaments possible.

Talent-wise James has everything to become one of the best ever. Let’s hope his attitude and hunger stay intact for many years to come.
