Trent Alexander-Arnold set the record for most Premier League assists from a defender in Liverpool's 3-1 victory over Burnley.

Alexander-Arnold's ball was headed home by Diogo Jota to open the scoring and seal a spot in the history books for the Liverpool right-back, who has now created 58 goals across his Premier League career.

He takes the record from teammate Andy Robertson, who sits on 57 and will be looking to reclaim his honour further down the line.

Robertson initially broke the previous record when he eclipsed Leighton Baines' tally of 53 assists in December 2022 but a period out with a shoulder injury has allowed Alexander-Arnold to catch up and claim the record for his own.

The assist was Alexander-Arnold's fourth this season and tenth in all competitions. At the other end of the spectrum, Robertson is still waiting for his first assist of the campaign, having been restricted to just 11 appearances in the league this season.

The move ahead of Robertson also sees Alexander-Arnold become the third-leading creator in Liverpool's Premier League history.

Steven Gerrard tops the charts with 92, with Mohamed Salah behind on 66.

Alexander-Arnold also holds the record for most assists from a defender in a single Premier League season, claiming the honour in 2019 before breaking it himself as he created a 13th in July 2020.

After setting up another 12 goals in 2021/22, Alexander-Arnold endured a drop in form last season but went on a tear towards the end of the campaign, racking up seven assists in his final ten games to finish on a respectable nine for the year.
