Travel information: Bochum match affected by train strike

Borussia Dortmund recommend that all visitors to the sold-out Bundesliga match against VfL Bochum arrive early and be prepared for massive transport and parking problems. The reason for this is the call for a strike by the GDL train drivers' union, which will have a massive impact on train traffic in NRW until Monday.

The GDL strike means that there are massive disruptions across Germany with train delays and cancellations. The emergency schedule only provides a very limited train service. Current information on the strike and on train traffic can be found here.

The Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association (VRR) has issued information on possible transport options:

  • Passengers travelling from Essen, Mülheim (Ruhr) or Duisburg should probably take the RE1 (RRX), RE6 (RRX) via Essen, Gelsenkirchen and Herne to Dortmund.
  • Passengers travelling from stops on the S1 between Bochum Hbf. and Dortmund Hbf. should use the S1 line (arrival) and the SEV buses on the S1 line from 20:00 CET onwards (departure).
  • Passengers from Bochum can take the U35 to Herne and change there to the RE1 (RRX), RE3, RE6 (RRX), S2 in the direction of Dortmund or use the additional direct buses between Bochum Hbf. and Dortmund Hbf. The buses will run every 10 minutes between 14:00 CET and 16:20 CET. After the match, they will run every 10 minutes between 19:20 CET and 22:00 CET.

Further information can be found in the electronic timetable information (www.bus-und-bahn.de) as well as via the DSW21 and VRR apps.

Those who travel by car should make use of the entire city area. There are only 10,000 paid parking spaces available around the Halls of Westphalia.

Please make sure for the sake of the environment that you carpool and minimise the number of cars you use to travel. For a sustainable car journey, our automobile partner ROSIER will provide you with the appropriate e-mobility.
