Transfermarkt: Milan’s squad remains the youngest among top Serie A teams

AC Milan are perhaps not as young as they were a couple of years ago during the lockdown-affected season, but they are still far younger than rival teams.

Ever since Elliott Management took over the club in 2018 the emphasis of the ownership – something which has continued into RedBird Capital’s tutelage – has been to invest in young talent.

During the 2020-21 season, when calculating the average age using the usual starting XI, the Rossoneri were at 24 years and 323 days which made them the third-youngest team in Europe in the ‘top five’ leagues.

Now, the age of the Milan team – taken as an average of the 28 players that officially form the squad – is 25.7 years. While this is above what it was during the 2020-21 season it is not by much, and it makes them the 10th-youngest in Serie A.

How does it compare to rivals? Inter are the oldest team in the league at 28.2 years, with Lazio second-oldest at 27. Roma (26.7) and Juventus (26.6) also crack the top five. Atalanta are surprisingly at 26.2 and Napoli at 26.

That means that Milan are the only one of the ‘top seven’ clubs in Italy to have an average age below 26.
