But Darren Moore will be hopeful that his side can go one step further over the next 12 months to earn their place back in the Championship.

Here are the latest transfer headlines related to Wednesday that you may have missed…

Transfer targets

Wednesday have already added five new players to Moore’s side this summer, but transfer business is not set to conclude just yet.

Moore has confirmed that the club is still looking to add a number of fresh faces to his squad.

Despite performing well last season, the club has lost some important players who need replacing.

That has seen a high rate of turnover, with Moore keen to build a squad capable of competing for promotion immediately.

Mallik Wilks chase is still on

One such player that Wednesday are aiming to sign is Hull City’s Mallik Wilks.

The Owls are hoping to secure the signing before the club flies out to Portugal for a warm weather pre-season training camp.

The League One side have lodged a formal offer to the Tigers, but they are still some way short of their evaluation of the 24-year old.

If the club wants to do a deal quickly then it is likely that they will have to cave to Hull’s demands in order to get an agreement over the line.

Smith has revealed how Moore was the persuasive figure that convinced him of a move to Wednesday.

The 30-year old joined the Owls following a departure from Rotherham United, which involved dropping down to the third division despite earning promotion to the Championship last season.

The ambition that Moore showed in his discussions with Smith convinced the player that a move away from the Millers was the right step for him at this stage of his career.
