Manchester United star Anthony Martial agrees in principle to join Sevilla

According to Tuttomercatoweb (h/t The Express), Manchester United star Anthony Martial has agreed in principle to join the Spanish side, Sevilla.

The French international has failed to live up to his potential at Old Trafford. He has in recent months fallen down the pecking order and is now angling for a move in order to garner regular playtime.

Martial has managed to make just 10 appearances all season, scoring one goal. His performances have done little to warrant more minutes on the field. The club has several players ahead of him in the pecking order and cashing in could prove to be the best option.

Despite his stock having fallen, the 26-year-old has attracted attention from the likes of Juventus and Barcelona among others. However, it would appear that it is Sevilla who have won the race to sign him.

As things stand, Martial has an agreement in place to join up with the La Liga side next month. With Juventus now looking elsewhere and Barcelona having agreed to sign Ferran Torres, Palanganas Nervionenses appear to have a clear road ahead.

Martial’s contract at Old Trafford runs until 2024, giving the Red Devils leeway in negotiations. It remains to be seen if he will initially join Sevilla on a six-month loan before making the deal permanent next summer.

Currently recovering from an injury, Martial is yet to feature under new boss Ralf Rangnick. With January fast approaching it remains to be seen if he has played his last game for Man United.

Rangnick is a fan of Martial but has already identified youngster Anthony Elanga as an able replacement should the former leave next month. Elanga penned a contract extension last night adding more layers to the unfolding situation.

While it is unfortunate that Martial could potentially leave without fulfilling his potential, he has failed to make use of numerous opportunities. Maybe a fresh challenge elsewhere is what the Frenchman seeks to rekindle his flagging career. With him potentially out of the way, it could be Elanga’s time to shine.
