Transfer News: Tottenham star Serge Aurier wanted by Paris Saint-Germain

According to French news outlet Le Parisien (h/t HITC), Paris Saint-Germain are plotting a summer transfer move for Tottenham Hotspur star Serge Aurier. The French giants are keen to strengthen their right flank and are keeping tabs on the Ivory Coast international.

PSG Sporting director Leonardo and president Nasser Al-Khelaifi are both in agreement that it is time to bring the defender back to the Parc des Princes. Aurier spent three years at PSG before moving to Tottenham in the summer of 2017. During that time, he made 81 appearances for the French giants, scoring five goals and assisting 15 more. Now managed by former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, Aurier could be subjected to serious interest once the summer window opens.

The right-back position is one that needs strengthening in Paris. With a permanent deal for loanee Alessandro Florenzi looking unlikely, PSG has now been forced to look elsewhere. Aurier has just over a year to go on his current deal at Spurs. With the prospect of losing him on a free in 2022, Daniel Levy might well be tempted to demand top dollar for him this summer.

The player has been inconsistent during his spell with Spurs and has so far shared pitch space with Matt Doherty this season. Neither player has stood out and a revamp of the position may be needed at the end of the season.

Speaking to Canal Plus Afrique (h/t The Sun), Aurier had admitted last summer that he is keen to finish his career at PSG. A self-proclaimed fan of the French giants, it would appear that his dream might just come true.

PSG’s interest in  Aurier is surprising given the circumstances of the player’s exit in 2017. Not only did he call Angel Di Maria a clown, but also aimed a homophobic slur at coach Laurent Blanc and criticised the alleged favouritism shown towards striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. To add to it, he was also suspended by the club in February 2017.

While neither Blanc nor Ibrahimovic is at the club anymore, Di Maria recently penned a one-year extension. The Argentine may well have to join forces with Aurier on the right. Knowing the Ivorian, there will surely be fireworks.
