According to Football Insider (h/t ESPN), Tottenham Hotspur have made a breakthrough in negotiations with Wolves for the signing of Spanish winger, Adama Traore.
After some stunning performances, Adama Traore has attracted a lot of eyes in the last few seasons. The problem affecting the Spanish star’s growth is his poor conversion rate. After a barren spell of 21 club matches without a goal or assist this season, he recently found the net against Southampton.
But despite that, those who have watched the former Barcelona man would know how his runs down the wings pose a big threat to defenders. One of the quickest players in the Premier League, Traore can make incisive runs into the heart of a team’s defence with pace and directness.

Tottenham have remained keen on Traore for a long time. After the arrival of Antonio Conte, the pursuit has become even more vital as the Italian is keen to use him in the right flank to solve our team’s current problems.
He did it with Victor Moses at Chelsea and completely turned around the Nigerian’s career at Stamford Bridge. It is clear that Conte utilizes a system where full-backs are very important going forward and having options there, especially players that are attack-minded like Traore, would be useful for the gaffer.
Wolves’ stance has been clear about the transfer that any concerned team would need to meet their set valuation. Spurs failed in their approach to convince Bruno Lage’s team with a £15m offer.
Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur set to meet Wolves’ demand for Adama Traore.
Now, it is believed that our board have reached an agreement with the Wanderers for a transfer fee in the region of £22.75m. That comes as really positive news for the club but we all know that nothing is guaranteed in the transfer market until official announcements are made.
Traore has breathtaking pace and impressive physicality, which can come in handy while making runs from the right flank. Conte recently explained how the right wing-back role is important in his formation. Emerson Royal, in that regard, hasn’t really been overly impressive.
If we manage to sign him this month, it’d be a big boost to the team. We are lacking depth in several key areas and a player like Traore, who can play in several roles, would certainly be beneficial for us- at least from the selection point of view.
He can also play on either flank and be an option wide or could even be a potent substitute to bring on- with his fresh legs a nightmare to deal with for defenders late on in the game. It now remains to be seen how this story develops and if the official announcement could be made before the end of the deadline day.
