Transfer News: Tottenham hold concrete talks to sign Jerome Boateng

According to German news publication BILD (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur remain firmly interested in a summer transfer for Bayern Munich star Jerome Boateng and have held concrete talks over a move.

Boateng is in the final weeks of his contract with Bayern Munich. The veteran centre-back’s current deal expires at the end of the season and with the club confirming there will be no renewal, he is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur have shown significant interest in securing the transfer of Boateng. The 32-year-old is said to be at the top of the wishlist for the north London giants despite the club currently not having a permanent manager.

Indeed, following the sacking of Jose Mourinho last month, Tottenham are without a full-time boss, with Ryan Mason taking charge on an interim basis. Despite the situation being as it is, plans for the summer transfer window seem to be readied already with Boateng one of the top targets for the Lilywhites. (h/t Express)

This comes in the aftermath of speculations that Tottenham are eyeing a major defensive overhaul in the summer. And it is now being claimed that the club has already held concrete negotiations with Boateng, who was an integral member of the Champions League winning side last season, over the possibility of a summer transfer.

The report further adds that Boateng is seeking a three-year contract and would be open to taking a pay cut, although the MLS is also an option for the German defender.

While he might have slowed down a bit, Boateng, with his experience and winning mentality, can still be a valuable addition to the team. However, it remains to be seen if Tottenham do end up acting on their transfer interest in Boateng or look elsewhere to bolster the defensive ranks come summer.
