Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur are targeting John McGinn from Aston Villa

According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Tottenham Hotspur are targeting Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn as a option to reinforce the midfield in the summer.

The Scottish midfielder has been a subject of interest of top PL clubs since the start of the season with Manchester United also being linked with a move for the 27-year-old to their ranks in the recent past.

The central midfielder has played 34 times for Steven Gerrard’s side, scoring 3 goals and making 3 assists during this period. Also capable of playing as a defensive midfielder or even out wide on the left, the Scottish international is versatile.

With more than one team interested in the talented midfielder, Spurs will not have it easy and can expect a transfer war to sign the Scotsman- if the Villans are willing to part ways with their talented midfielder in the first place.

An astute acquisition?

Signing McGinn will undoubtedly be a very shrewd accusation for the Lilywhites. The Aston Villa man has time and again proved him worth at Villa Park and could be ready for his next big move.

Spurs are not short of midfield options and are pretty well-stocked in the region. Despite this, adding a player of McGinn’s abilities could help improve the existing quality of the midfield and provide players with competition.

Conte’s men are on the verge of securing qualification to the Champions League next season and having a big squad will be essential for Spurs to mount a serious challenge in both the league as well as the cups.

Manchester United are going through a rebuild of their own and if they ever rekindle their interest in signing McGinn- albeit there being no real signs of it right now- then it might be difficult for Spurs to convince the player. However, the fact that we can hopefully offer him Champions League football could tip the scales in our favour.

It remains to be seen what happens with the Scottish midfielder. If Spurs is indeed his next destination, it will definitely be worth it, given how Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele have failed to impress Antonio Conte to an extent that they were let go of mid-season.
