According to Fichajes, Spanish side Sevilla are keen on taking Manchester United winger Daniel James on loan in the summer transfer window.
The Andalusians have already qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League and also made it to the Copa Del Rey semifinals. They are keen to continue improving and have identified the Welshman as a potential addition.
According to the report, the potential signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund could severely limit James’ game time next season. It could pave the way for Sevilla to make their move.
At 23, James still has the best years of his career ahead of him. A pace merchant, his biggest downfall at United has been his lack of consistency. Couple it with the emergence of Mason Greenwood and his playtime has taken a significant hit.
Signing Sancho will only potentially make it worse. He will be guaranteed more playtime at Sevilla and a season spent abroad could do him good. The Spaniards will also be getting a promising winger on the cheap, fixing a key weakness in their squad.
James made 46 appearances last season, playing 3005 minutes. He has experienced significantly less time this campaign, clocking a meagre 1426 minutes in 24 games. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Interestingly, however, he has bettered his goal tally from last season despite his limited opportunities. A decent set of performances saw him stake a claim for a starting spot in February and March. The run indicated just what the Welshman can offer in his pomp.
Unfortunately an injury and cut short his season and he has not played for the club since April. With just three more games to go in the season, it remains to be seen if he will return.
Provided Sancho does come in, it could be in United’s best interests to loan our James. The 23-year-old should be playing regularly and further his abilities rather than settle for a place on the bench.
In Julen Lopetegui and Jesus Navas, he has an excellent coach and a veteran of the trade to guide him towards his potential. A spell in sunny Spain would be a win-win for all parties.
