Tottenham Hotspur and Everton to face off for Sami Khedira

According to Football Italia (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur are facing competition from Everton in their efforts to land Sami Khedira in the January transfer window.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho will be familiar with the 33-year-old German veteran who played under him at Real Madrid. Under his guidance, the midfielder won the La Liga title as well as the Copa del Rey at the Spanish giants.

Khedira eventually moved to Juventus in 2015 where he added further to his impressive trophy haul. Injuries have seen him drop down the pecking order and fail to appear regularly in recent seasons.

With both Arthur and Weston McKennie ahead of him in the Juventus pecking order, Khedira is yet to make an appearance for the Old Lady this season. In fact, he may already have even played his last game for the club as the January window approaches. (h/t Football.london)

According to the report, Khedira’s contract could be cancelled in the new year. This can see him join another club on a free. While he isn’t the force of old, his experience and ability to read the game could see him thrive if used right.

The German was never the fastest of players, instead relying on his ability to read the game and be at the right place at the right time. While he is at best a short-term option, securing every weapon we can in the search of a Premier League title must be explored.

Clash of the former Real Madrid managers!

However, Everton is believed to be leading the race to land him. Managed by another former Real Madrid Carlo Ancelotti, the duo worked together as Real clinched La Decima in 2014. (h/t Football.london)

A factor that could work in our favour is Khedira’s willingness to work with Mourinho. He recently revealed he enjoyed his time with Mourinho at Real Madrid and would be very much open to working with him once again if an opportunity presented itself. (h/t Express)

With the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele all available, Spurs are well-stocked in midfield.

Given his advanced age and lack of match fitness, signing Khedira is not without risk. However, his biggest contribution may be off the pitch than on it. As someone who has won the biggest trophies in football, the veteran midfielder brings with him a winning mentality.

For a squad largely used to coming up short, this could be a morale booster. Combining the hunger to be successful with the mentality required to get there could work in our favour.
