Manchester United are ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the pursuit of Antony

According to Miguel Delaney (h/t Football.London), The influence of Eric Ten Hag on Antony might turn into a disadvantage for Tottenham Hotspur in the transfer race.

Antony was one of Ajax’s bright stars under Erik ten Hag. After the Dutch giants signed him from Sao Paulo in the summer of 2020, he subsequently established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet, appearing in 78 games for them, scoring 22 goals and assisting another 20.

It is believed that Tottenham are interested in signing the Brazil international and are contemplating adding Steven Bergwijn to the deal, who has fallen from the pecking order under Antonio Conte.

Last season, the Netherlands international failed to unseat Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min in the Lilywhites XI, making only four Premier League appearances. The Dutchman came off the bench to score a stunning late brace in a 3-2 win against Leicester City in January, but the 24-year-old couldn’t repeat the success.

Even though it could be a lucrative package for Ajax to consider for the transfer of Antony, it is claimed that Manchester United are still favourites to win the race.

The Brazilian striker has lauded Eric Ten Hag’s tactics recently and has backed him to become successful at Manchester United. Such an affection might influence him to choose the Red Devils over Tottenham when deciding on his future move.

We won’t be able to persuade the 22-year-old to join us if he has already made up his mind about transferring to Old Trafford. After all, he already knows how our bitter opponents would be unable to give Champions League football the next season. As a result, it’s possible that the South American might be unconcerned about losing out on the CL next season.

Then again he might not be able to get a crucial role upon arriving as we already have an attacking trio comprising Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Dejan Kulusevski. They’ve developed a strong bond in a short time, and adding Antony to the lineup could work either way.

As a result, if this story is believed to be accurate, we may be obliged to look elsewhere. We might be better off signing a striker who would be open to playing a more subtle role in the frontline from time to time.
