Transfer News: Manchester United prepared to let Phil Jones leave for free

According to transfer news from 90min, Manchester United are prepared to let Phil Jones walk away on a free transfer. United are keen to get Jones off their books along with a number of other players. However, to expedite the defender’s departure they are willing to let him leave as a free agent.

It’s hard to believe that Jones is still among the two players to remain from the Sir Alex Ferguson era. It has also been a decade since Jones was signed as one of the brightest names in the English game. The defender has featured 224 times for United over the last decade.

Jones is currently recovering from an injury

Jones has become somewhat of a forgotten man at United these days after last featuring for the side in January 2020. Since then, injuries and fitness issues have kept him out of action for close to one-and-a-half seasons. Every time it looked as if he was close to featuring, there was some complication.

Now, as United try to lighten their squad, Jones’ name is one they are particularly keen to get off their books. Rather surprisingly a lot of clubs such as Newcastle, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Everton, Southampton, Everton and West Ham have kept tabs on him. Clubs would be reluctant to get him on loan as it would use up one of the two slots. That is why United are prepared to let him walk away as a free agent.
