Transfer News: Manchester United are the frontrunners to sign Napoli star Fabián Ruiz

According to transfer news from La Repubblica (h/t SportsWitness), Manchester United are in ‘pole position’ to strike a deal with Napoli for the signature of Fabián Ruiz.

Despite facing an injury concern in this campaign, Fabián Ruiz was able to make a considerable impact at the Naples-based team. The Spaniard has already bagged five goals and three assists in 19 appearances across all competitions this term and played a decisive role in the central midfield area for the Italian team in the first half of the season.

Despite growing into a critical player for Luciano Spalletti’s side, Fabián isn’t interested in continuing this partnership forward. His current contract ends in 2023 and the Spaniard is understood to not be in line for a renewal deal.

Napoli have already identified Davide Frattesi as a replacement and intend to capture the signature of the Sassuolo midfielder. However, before making an offer, they have to find a solution for Ruiz.

Manchester United certainly can help the Serie A side in this sector. The Red Devils were believed to be interested in the Spanish international. Currently, Ralf Rangnick’s team have the edge over other teams in the race and could get the op[portuinbity to secure the transfer in the summer window.

After Paul Pogba’s injury, we have fared poorly in the midfield region in some of the previous matches. Despite the best efforts of Fred and Scott McTominay, our midfielders had lacked creativity when it came against top tier Premier League teams.

Fabián Ruiz would undoubtedly make a great choice for us if given a chance. The Napoli midfielder has shown that he can handle the ball in the critical region of the field. The Spaniard could propose a better passing alternative in attacking areas and would be able to take away the burden of producing chances from the head of Bruno Fernandes.

However, given the midfielder’s quality, it’s highly likely that other Premier League teams would take him into consideration. Therefore, the ideal solution for our board would be getting into a pre-contractual agreement with Fabian in the ongoing window, which would certainly prevent any transfer battle in the summer.
