Transfer News: Manchester United blow in chase for Antoine Griezmann

According to transfer news from TEAMtalk, Manchester United have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Antoine Griezmann. The Barcelona forward prefers a return to Atletico Madrid in case he does move. Tottenham have also shown interest in the World Cup winner.

A top-class forward, Griezmann was among the best in the business during his time at Atletico Madrid. He was an industrious presence in Diego Simeone’s hard-working side who could score as well as create goals in equal measure.

However, an expensive move to Barcelona in 2019 has not gone as he would have liked. He has failed to replicate the form he showed prior to his move and has been more of a peripheral figure at the club. Now with Barcelona looking to trim their wage bill, Griezmann’s name has landed on the chopping block.

Interest in the French forward grew as clubs looked to take him off Barcelona’s hands. However, he is adamant that he will not be leaving the club unless it is a return to Atleti. That means, United have to walk away from this deal given the player himself is not keen to make a move away, let alone to United.

  • Fans react as Manchester United finally announce the arrival of Jadon Sancho

This is perhaps a deal that Manchester United need not be looking at in the first place. The club have enough players to play in the striker role and adding another name would be a misuse of funds. United would do well to pass up on this interest of theirs and focus on some defensive signings as the QPR loss pointed out.
