Liverpool have been linked with Belgian starlet Jeremy Doku

Sport Witness have cited a report from Het Laaste Nieuw (h/t Daily Express), which states that the profile of Belgian winger Jeremy Doku still ‘appeals to Liverpool’.

The report states that the Reds were supposedly interested in signing Jeremy Doku last summer but opted against the move. However, ‘his profile appeals to Liverpool’ despite Liverpool choosing not to pursue the 18-year-old last summer. (h/t Daily Express)

The Belgian winger just signed a 5-year contract this season with his new club Stade Rennais in France. It is unlikely that the ex-Anderlecht man will move on so quickly in January, but it could be a transfer that Liverpool have in mind in the coming years. (h/t Daily Express)

Liverpool do not have a shortage of wingers, with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Takumi Minamino, and Xherdan Shaqiri all capable of playing on the wings.

Liverpool have a prodigal winger of their own. The 17-year-old loaned-out Harvey Elliott has scored once and assisted thrice in his 8 Championship games with Blackburn Rovers this season.

However, with both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah turning 29 next year, Liverpool can start planning for the future and prepare for life after Jurgen Klopp. Also, no matter how much depth and quality a club has, they should always keep an eye out for talented young players like Jeremy Doku.

Doku would be a smashing signing considering his potential and can aid the club in the future while also providing the team with quality depth and competition in the short-term. His talent is also recognized by Belgium’s coach Roberto Martinez, who has already started the 18-year-old 5 times this year for the Belgian national team.

Whether the club act on their interest is a different story, and for now, the best bet seems like waiting for Doku to develop further and see out his Rennes contract a little bit more.
