We are now approaching the end of the January transfer window and things could soon spark into life. During an otherwise rather slow month on the transfer front, Arsenal are said to have two targets in mind. Pedro Neto of Wolves is believed to be of interest again, although Paris Saint-Germain’s Xavi Simons is reportedly seen as an alternative.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are also yet to make a signing. Still, they may have been handed a boost in their supposed pursuit of Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr. Indeed, claims from Spain suggest that the Brazilian could be sold in order to make way for one Kylian Mbappe.

Then there’s Chelsea. Unusually quiet so far, the Blues could be about to make a big move. There are now suggestions that contact over a deal to sign Karim Benzema could be made imminently as they also chase Jhon Duran at Aston Villa, while West Ham are about to clinch the loan signing of Kalvin Phillips as Liverpool eye Joshua Kimmich. Man Utd eye new Argentina defender

Manchester United are pushing ahead with a deal for a player dubbed the next Lisandro Martinez.

Aaron Anselmino of Boca Juniors has started to make a name for himself of late and, at the age of 18, is also wanted by Benfica and AC Milan.

Argentine journalist Jonathan Riniti has reported on Boca expecting a bid from United for the defender.

Likewise, they await Liverpool’s first offer for midfielder Ezequiel Fernandez - who has also been linked to Arsenal.

Chelsea line up Thiago Silva replacement

Speaking of Thiago Silva, reports in Portugal name Chelsea’s supposed ideal alternative.

Ousmane Diomande of Sporting CP is high on their list for a summer move.

The Lisbon club may drop their demand for the Ivorian’s full £71m release clause at the end of the campaign, when they will have more time to sign a replacement.

And Chelsea’s alternative to Diomande could be… Sporting centre-back Goncalo Inacio. At least Todd Boehly will save on his airfare!

Mauricio Pochettino responds to Thiago Silva speculation

Mauricio Pochettino has brushed off talk of Thiago Silva leaving Chelsea.

The Brazilian defender hinted earlier in the week that this could be his last season at the Bridge, ahead of his contract expiring in the summer.

But Pochettino said today that he is not planning for life after Silva, before the club decides whether to offer him a new deal.

“We didn't talk about the next season,” he noted.

“This question is more for him than me. For him, it's to keep fit. With his age, he is doing fantastic. We are so happy with him.

“The future is about him and the club.”

Antonio Nusa to Spurs update

Tottenham are yet to advance their bid to sign Antonio Nusa.

That is according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, following reports that the deal could be done today.

This fresh report notes that a transfer fee remains the main topic of negotiations for the Club Brugge teenager.

Competition remains high but Nusa is “close” to becoming a Spurs player, it is claimed.

Wolves halt Chelsea deal

The risk of falling foul to the Premier League's financial regulations has led to Wolves pausing their push to sign Armando Broja.

According to the Mail, the deal involved a £30million obligation to buy the Chelsea striker after a loan until the end of the season.

It's interesting to see how the rules are finally getting in the way of/catching up with Premier League teams' spending (delete as appropriate depending on your personal opinion!).

Man Utd make January transfer decision

It's not just Karim Benzema who Manchester United won't be signing this month.

News out of The Athletic that the Red Devils won't, in fact, be signing anyone!

There's no spare cash in the budget for even a loan signing, even with Anthony Martial ruled out for the next ten weeks after groin surgery.

All the focus on the summer from the boffins down at INEOS, then.

Man Utd turn down Karim Benzema

The path has cleared somewhat for Chelsea to sign Karim Benzema, should they want to.

That is because Manchester United have snubbed the opportunity to sign him on loan.

The Mail say Benzema's mind-boggling £86m annual wage packet has put them off throwing their hat in the ring for a loan move from Al-Ittihad.

Lyon are reportedly plotting a move after he decided he wanted a break from Saudi football.
