The January transfer window is now almost halfway through, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and busy Tottenham all trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season. Chelsea are said to be locked in a battle with Liverpool over Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, while they may also be about to activate the release clause of Palmeiras starlet Estevao Willian - AKA 'Messinho' - as they also keep a firm eye on Evan Ferguson at Brighton and Roma's Paulo Dybala.

Manchester United are set to open talks with Benfica over Joao Neves, with Alvaro Fernandez on his way to the Portuguese giants. Arsenal look to have been priced out of a move for Ivan Toney this month, though Getafe's Borja Mayoral could well be a more affordable striker option as the Gunners also target the likes of Joshua Zirkzee, Dusan Vlahovic, Amadou Onana, Martin Zubimendi and Jorrel Hato.

Tottenham in talks with Brentford over Sergio Reguilon loan

Sergio Reguilon could be heading back out on loan from Tottenham this month.

The Spanish full-back was recalled from Manchester United last week after an underwhelming stint at Old Trafford and does not appear part of Ange Postecoglou's plans for the future in north London.

According to the Daily Mail, Brentford are now in talks with Spurs over taking Reguilon on loan until the summer.

The report says that the Bees have also had their eye on Renan Lodi, about to leave Marseille for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, and Luke Thomas, who recently returned to Leicester from his loan at Sheffield United.

Arsenal interested in Borja Mayoral deal

Arsenal are interested in a January deal for Borja Mayoral.

The Spaniard is the joint-second top scorer in LaLiga so far this season behind only Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham, piquing the interest of Mikel Arteta as his side desperately attempt to breathe new life into their stuttering Premier League title bid.

Financial constraints look to have ruled out a move for top target Ivan Toney - rated at around £100m - this month, though Mayoral could be a more affordable option.

However, TuttoMercatoWeb reports that Getafe have no interest in selling the player before the summer as they seek to qualify for Europe next term.
