We are fast approaching the business end of the January transfer window as clubs in the Premier League and beyond strive to complete some huge late deals. Arsenal are rumoured to be plotting an audacious loan bid for former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, though appear to face a fierce battle with Chelsea for the Frenchman with his future in Saudi Arabia seemingly now uncertain.

Arsenal are also said to be favourites in the race to sign Xavi Simons, while they are also rivalling Tottenham for Real Sociedad's Ander Barrenetxea as they watch the likes of Joshua Zirkzee having been seemingly priced out of a move for Ivan Toney. Chelsea continue to be linked with Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres and are believed to have held talks over Ousmane Diomande as they also continue to monitor Marc Guehi and prepare to offload potentially both Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah.

Done deal! Tottenham loan Japhet Tanganga to Millwall

Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga has joined Millwall on a straight loan for the rest of the season after returning from a disastrous spell at Augsburg, writes Dan Kilpatrick.

Tanganga, 24, failed to make a single appearance on loan at the German club and will now link-up with the Lions for the rest of the Championship campaign.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at Spurs in the summer but the club has an option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.

Millwall manager Joe Edwards was formerly a youth coach at Chelsea and England Under-20s boss, raising hopes that he could bring some of the country's best young talent to The Den.
