We are fast approaching the business end of the January transfer window as clubs in the Premier League and beyond strive to complete some huge late deals. Arsenal are rumoured to be plotting an audacious loan bid for former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, though appear to face a fierce battle with Chelsea for the Frenchman with his future in Saudi Arabia seemingly now uncertain.
Arsenal are also said to be favourites in the race to sign Xavi Simons, while they are also rivalling Tottenham for Real Sociedad's Ander Barrenetxea as they watch the likes of Joshua Zirkzee having been seemingly priced out of a move for Ivan Toney. Chelsea continue to be linked with Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres and are believed to have held talks over Ousmane Diomande as they also continue to monitor Marc Guehi and prepare to offload potentially both Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah.
Tottenham and Liverpool could fight it out for Japan's Ko Itakura, while Manchester United's apparent interest in Vinicius Jr has been challenged as they receive a new boost on the Goncalo Ramos front. Jordan Henderson will undergo a medical and sign for Ajax on Thursday as West Ham push to sign Wilfried Gnonto from Leeds. Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga has joined Millwall on a straight loan for the rest of the season after returning from a disastrous spell at Augsburg, writes Dan Kilpatrick.
Tanganga, 24, failed to make a single appearance on loan at the German club and will now link-up with the Lions for the rest of the Championship campaign.
The 24-year-old is out of contract at Spurs in the summer but the club has an option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.
Millwall manager Joe Edwards was formerly a youth coach at Chelsea and England Under-20s boss, raising hopes that he could bring some of the country's best young talent to The Den.

Speculation surrounding Karim Benzema's future has been quelled by the player's lawyer.
Arsenal and Chelsea are two of several clubs linked with the veteran striker, following reports of a falling out with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad and of his alleged unhappiness in the Middle East.
Benzema's lawyer, Hugues Vigier, has dismissed the player's current struggles on the pitch - with his team off the pace in the title race - as any sign that he will leave, although he hinted that former club Lyon would be on the table should he seek an exit.

Perhaps Karim Benzema isn't destined to leave Saudi Arabia this month after all.
Standard Sport understands that Premier League clubs have been placed on alert over the 2022 Ballon d'Or winner, with Arsenal and Chelsea on the hunt for a new striker.
It was said that Benzema is frustrated in Saudi Arabia and wants to leave Al-Ittihad after only six months, viewing a move to England as a real possibility in January.
However, French publication L'Equipe are now reporting that the 36-year-old Real Madrid legend will stay put beyond the deadline.

West Ham and Crystal Palace are among the clubs interested in a move for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who is set to decide his future next week, writes Nizaar Kinsella.
Phillips is keen to play more regular football for the remainder of the season to give himself a better chance of keeping his place in the England squad for Euro 2024.
Newcastle are also interested in the 28-year-old, while Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have been linked with a January move. Juventus have cooled their interest in Phillips.
City are said to be relaxed over the situation regarding Phillips, but will demand that his £135,000-a-week wages are paid in full if he leaves on loan this month.
