Hakan Calhanoglu may already have agreed on a contract with Manchester United

According to Spanish publication TF (h/t Sempre Milan), AC Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu may be on his way to Manchester United in the summer.

The Turkish midfielder is in the final few months of his contract at the San Siro. While Milan are involved in negotiations, they are beginning to distrust the player’s commitment to pen fresh terms.

Calhanoglu has so far delayed signing a contract, leading Milan to suspect he could be on his way to the Premier League.

The 27-year-old moved to Milan in 2017 after making a name for himself in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen. Despite a few moments of brilliance, he has failed to make a lasting impression in Italy.

With his time in Italy winding down, a new chapter may be about to unfold in England. As per the report, the player already has a pre-contract agreed with United ahead of a summer switch.

The potential move would be welcomed by the Red Devils, who had been keeping tabs on the player for some time now.

A no-brainer of an addition?

Milan sporting director Ricky Massara earlier admitted that the Rossoneri are confident of keeping hold of the Turk. However, German publication Bild’s Christian Falk believes it is 90% certain that the player is on his way to Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted yesterday that the club will need to be smart when it comes to summer reinforcements. With Calhaoglu available on a free transfer, United will be securing a skilled player in his prime and with a point to prove.

Calhanoglu was seen as a viable backup to star midfielder Bruno Fernandes last summer. While it is debatable if he will challenge for a regular starting spot, the 27-year-old will at least add strength in depth.
