Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani could make the switch to Botafogo

According to Goal (h/t Sports Mole), Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani could be headed to Brazilian outfit Botafogo at the end of his contract next summer.

The Uruguayan international has brought a lot of experience in the attacking setup. The former PSG striker has scored 19 goals and bagged seven assists in 54 matches across all competitions for the Reds to date.

That being said, his work ethic and smart movement have helped a lot in the attacking department highlighting the fact that his impact on the club is more than just the representation of these stats. Despite his experience, at 35, one could not help but think that the former SSC Napoli hitman has now entered the twilight phase of his footballing career.

The new interim manager Ralf Rangnick has tried to adopt a more attacking and intense brand of football at Old Trafford. With both Cristiano Ronaldo and Cavani in their 30s, the duo has at times struggled to keep up to the pace of the game.

Manchester United and their need for a young striker

The Red Devils do possess some pretty good options in Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho in the forward line. That being said, none of them are out-and-out strikers and have proven to be more effective on the wings.

Anthony Martial is currently on loan to Sevilla and his performances in a red jersey have been quite underwhelming at times in the red jersey. The French striker, however, did manage to score his first goal for the Spanish club recently and while it may be a long shot it would hopefully help him claw his way back to form.

Edinson Cavani has been a dependable option for Manchester United in the last couple of seasons.

The German manager and the 26-year-old striker have shared a very difficult relationship, to say the least in this short time but only time can tell whether or not the next manager will take kindly to the former AS Monaco forward.

Cavani will be out of contract in the coming summer. It is highly unlikely that the former Palmero striker will renew his contract and by the look of things, it seems as though he has already made up his mind about his next footballing destination.

Despite his short spell at the Theatre of Dreams. Edinson Cavani has provided us with some great moments to cherish. Hopefully, there will be more reasons for him to celebrate in red before the end of this season.
