Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid are keeping tabs on Chelsea star Andreas Christensen

According to The Sun, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Chelsea star Andreas Christensen.

Thiago Silva’s injury last season put a lot of pressure on the shoulder of Thomas Tuchel. However, Andreas Christensen stepped up and made an instant influence on the team. The Danish star has continued his impressive spell of form this campaign and has already secured 21 appearances across all competitions. However, he got injured in the first week of this month, further frustrating the Blues faithful.

Chelsea star Andreas Christensen attracting a lot of interest from elite European teams.

Christensen only has six months left in his contract and is eligible to talk with foreign teams regarding a pre-contractual agreement. Despite being a top performer in the current Chelsea squad, our board hasn’t found a solution to tie him down in a new contract, and that’s where the problem lies.

The player is not short of options with Barcelona and Bayern Munich both interested. According to Fabrizio Romano, both European heavyweights are still ‘strongly interested’ in luring him from Stamford Bridge.

Now it is believed that Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid have also entered the race and are keeping a close tab on the situation. This is not good news for Chelsea who could be on the verge of losing a dependent player for free.

Christensen played a massive role in the final of last season’s Champions League when Thiago Silva had to depart early following a fitness issue. The Danish star’s quality is no secret to the Premier League as he currently to rank among the top flight’s best players.

The Blues are already in a contract stand-off with Antonio Rudiger and César Azpilicueta. Therefore, losing Christensen in such a situation would be a massive blow for our defensive depth.

Even if we attempt to sign a new defender, he could take time to adjust to Thomas Tuchel’s tactics, and for any foreign player, it would be challenging to adapt to the Premier League environment. However, our defence has already been tested amid the injury crisis of several key players in the last few months, and we currently don’t have the luxury to invest that time into new signings.

On the other side of the story, if Christensen decides to leave the club, there is a vast potential to generate a handsome sum from his signing. That is provided he is sold this month. With time ticking down fast, the Blues are better served holding onto him. What eventually happens remains to be seen.
