Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur plot enticing offer for Barcelona ace Ousmane Dembele amidst Manchester United interest

According to transfer news on Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Sun), Tottenham Hotspur have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele.

The Frenchman came with a lot of hype and a price tag of £135.5million to the Nou Camp in 2017. However, injuries have ruined his chances of kickstarting his career at the Spanish club. In fact, he has also only managed one substitute appearance in the league this season.

Despite this, he wants to sign a new deal and stay at the club. Barcelona also want the player to stay and renew his contract before it expires in the summer. However, the winger is not seeing eye-to-eye on their current offer and could engage in negotiations with foreign clubs in January.

Man United are plotting a deal to bring him in as the prospect of signing him on a free transfer could be appealing. Newcastle United are also ready to try their hand at this move. However, Tottenham are looking to beat both clubs to the punch.

Fabio Paratici wanted to sign the attacker at Juventus and remains interested in him. In fact, Spurs are also ready to hand him the right-winger role if he agrees to join them.

Cannot let a rival sign him

Tottenham are a current rival to us in the Top 4 race. They recently hired Antonio Conte and could develop into a real force soon. If they add Dembele to their squad, they could surely bring fear into most defences as they already possess Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Man United would be wise to stop this from happening. Not to mention, Newcastle’s recent takeover also makes them a force to reckon with in the future as far as the ‘big 6’ clubs in England are concerned. The 24-year-old is possibly available on a free transfer and would be looking for a good project if he doesn’t renew his deal at Barcelona. Ralf Rangnick needs to work his magic wand and bring the French international through the door if our interest in him is real and serious.

Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani could depart in the summer after their respective contracts expire. Cristiano Ronaldo shall also turn 37 in a couple of months. Thus, signing a vibrant winger on the brink of hitting his professional peak is not a bad choice.

His injury issues are a concern but if he can get that behind him, his form at Borussia Dortmund tells everything we need to know about him as a prolific winger. We already have Jadon Sancho and Amad Diallo in the right-wing position, but adding a player like Dembele would strengthen any team’s depth up front. He can slot into the team right away and if not that, can offer necessary competition for starts.
