Transfer News: Man City plot January transfer for Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Haaland amidst Manchester United links

According to The Times (h/t The Express), Manchester United could suffer a potential blow as Man City are plotting a January transfer move for Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

The 21-year-old has set the footballing world alight with his goal-scoring numbers in the last year and a half. Since making the move from RB Salzburg, Haaland has been banging in the goals for Dortmund and has racked up a ridiculous 47 goals in 48 Bundesliga games.

These numbers ensured that the German club finished 3rd in the German league last season while they are also only a point off league leaders Bayern Munich this season. Thus, there was a lot of justifiable interest in the Norwegian this summer, but the Signal Iduna Park outfit managed to keep a hold of the centre-forward.

However, they might not be able to do so next summer as the youngster’s supposed release clause between €75m-100m would be activated, and several clubs, including United, are keen on a deal.

Man City to ruin United’s plans for Erling Haaland?

Edinson Cavani is likely to leave at the end of his contract this season and reinforcements might be due. While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does have Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo as strikers, Haaland would provide a different threat altogether.

However, Man City might now be out to ruin those plans for their bitter rivals. And that is because the Etihad outfit are ready to open talks with the Norway international’s agent, Mino Raiola, in January itself.

If Pep Guardiola & co land an agreement at the start of the year, there is nothing the other clubs can do about it.

Thus, if Solskjaer does hope to reunite with his former Molde disciple, they will have to act faster than their rivals and get an agreement over the line to secure the services of the 21-year-old.
