Transfer News: Chelsea ace Timo Werner wanted by Borussia Dortmund

According to German outlet BILD (h/t ESPN), Chelsea ace Timo Werner is a surprise target for Borussia Dortmund. The German side view him as a potential replacement for Erling Haaland should he depart the club. Bayern Munich are also said to be after Werner.

Timo Werner was among the few expensive signings from last season. However, he failed to replicate his previous form as goals seemed to dry up at various stages of the campaign. It’s not that Werner was playing any bad. But it seemed like his finishing had seemed to abandon him at those crucial moments.

Apparently, that has not affected his stock in Germany as he was earlier being eyed by Bayern Munich. Now, another name can be added to the list with Bayern’ rivals, Borussia Dortmund joining the chase. The club are preparing for the eventuality that their star striker Erling Haaland can leave next summer due to a reduced release clause.

A host of European heavyweight clubs are likely to go after him next season. That has led Dortmund to zero down on Chelsea’s Timo Werner as the striker to succeed Haaland. Indeed a rather surprising move on Dortmund’s part for a forward who has struggled to score at Haaland’s natural capacity.

It’s not that hard to add it up as Werner was one of the best marksmen during his time in Germany. His Chelsea form might not be something write home about but there is no doubting he is s young striker, full of quality. It is likely to be something to keep an eye on given the numerous factors involved in this potential deal.
