Celtic this evening have confirmed that defender Osaze Urhoghide has returned to Belgian side Oostende on a season long loan deal. The former Sheffield Wednesday defender spent the second half of last season at Oostende and there was talk of them buying him in the summer, but the suns involved were too high for their budget.
Urhoghide featured prominently in the early pre-season matches in Austria and Czech Republic but dropped out of the picture as the games continued.
The official Ostende account posted this: “Welcome back Osaze! He will return on a loan basis + option.
Their President Gauthier Ganaye stated: “Osaze would like to return and we are therefore very pleased that we have a strong holder in the defense who already knows the way the club and trainer work.”
The option to buy isn’t mentioned by Celtic but the Oostende President clearly states that it is included. Jack Hendry progressed so well making the same move and indeed made Oostende a few million in the process.
Hopefully Urhoghide can follow a similar path as he makes his way in the game. That though is now highly unlikely to be at Celtic. He is a player with plenty of offer and he should go on to have a decent career. We certainly wish him all the best.
