Transfer Latest: Jota set to become our Superstar from Portugal

After having a loan of the player from Benfica for last season, it appears Jota may at long last be about to become OUR superstar from Portugal, with Portuguese outlet Record advising the deal to make Jota a permanent addition to Ange Postecoglou’s squad could be completed by the end of this week.

That same publication had previously stated there were difficulties emerging surrounding Jota’s personal terms being agreed just last week, but this change in tack certainly indicates whatever those problems were seem now to have been navigated.

Cameron Carter-Vickers recent decision to make his loan deal from Spurs into a permanent arrangement was a real sign of intent from Celtic, add another £6m plus deal in the shape of Jota and it would appear Ange Postecoglou is certainly receiving the financial backing from the Celtic boardroom his efforts from last season deserve.

Despite a period on the sidelines with a hamstring injury – and a few weeks to get up to speed post recovery from it – Jota managed 13 goals and 14 assists in 40 appearances whilst on loan from Celtic. When you consider that was the first real out and out season of football for the tricky winger, you can only imagine his ceiling as a player is substantially higher than even what he’s so far managed in a Celtic shirt.

If this deal can be completed this week, it will give everyone surrounding the club a real short in the arm, as Jota is a player who can perform superbly well in the Scottish game, but he’s also one who can certainly transfer those abilities to the European stage – and there is no better place to showcase that than the Champions’ League group stages this year.

Anyone of a nervous disposition will no doubt want to wait until Celtic’s social media team makes this official, but it certainly appears Jota could be our superstar from Portugal imminently.
