Celtic have contacted Mohamed Magdy’s representatives ahead of making a move for the player in the January transfer window. Magdy is one who has been linked previously to the club, although nothing transpired last summer and the player remained at his team Al-Ahly.

The 26-year-old playmaker is a typical number 10 and Football Scotland have reported that the Hoops have held initial discussions with the players agents but that nothing has advanced beyond that at this moment in time. Magdy has a record of 19 goals in 86 appearances for the Egyptian outfit since moving to the Africans back in 2019.

The report reads as follows:

“Celtic have made contact with Afsha’s representatives about a potential swoop for the attacker.

“The Egyptian, 26, had been previously linked with a move to Glasgow though nothing materialised. But the Al-Ahly playmaker – full name Mohamed Magdy – is still on the radar of the Scottish champions and Football Scotland can reveal initial contact has been made.

“Interest, at this moment, has not gone further than brief discussions with the player’s reps but Celtic face competition from clubs in the English Championship as well as in Europe with Turkish sides keeping a close eye. There had been suggestions that it could be a loan deal but it’s understood it would be a permanent transfer and not an initial temporary move to the Premiership leaders.

“Maher Nawfal, Afsha’s representative, exclusively told Football Scotland: ‘There has been interest from Celtic but we will take time to consider what is best for Afsha before a decision is made.’

“We told how Hoops manager Ange Postecoglou recently revealed plans to bolster his squad in January and the club have already splashed out on the likes of Alistair Johnston and Yuki Kobayashi. Afsha would provide another attacking option for Celts and a proven track record.

“He has 19 goals in 86 appearances for Al Ahly since 2019 having helped them towards seven trophies during that spell. We told recently how his club had plans to knock back any approach for the player before reportedly opting to reconsider as long as their valuation was met for any deal to be done.”
