UNITED, ATALANTA POLES APART OVER HOJLUND  Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to sign a striker ‘as soon as possible’. But it seems the Red Devils boss will have to remain patient for the time being.

United have been heavily linked with a move for Atlanta forward Rasmus Hojlund and the Daily Mail says, finally, they will get around to putting in their first bid for the Denmark international.

But it is almost certainly doomed to fail. The Times says United are only willing to pay £60million for Hojlund – well short of Atlanta’s £86.5million asking price. Which is obviously ludicrous for a youngster yet to bag double figures in a league season. But the Italians know how desperate United’s need is so you can hardly blame them for trying it on.

Should Atalanta maintain their current demands, United may have to look elsewhere. The Mirror says they are continuing to track Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani – he won’t be much cheaper than Hojlund – and Ajax’s versatile forward Mohammed Kudus.

United really should be moving heaven and earth to sign Harry Kane. But they aren’t. Up to now, they won’t even pick up the phone to Tottenham and Joe Lewis’s demand that Kane either sign up and be sold doesn’t seem to have altered that stance, according to the BBC.

Nor are United in for Kylian Mbappe – not really – while the France star mulls over the daftest offer any footballer has ever received. Should Mbappe accept Al Hilal’s proposal, which is worth £1.65million A DAY, then PSG will look to put the world record fee they receive to good use.

The Independent says PSG will immediately meet Spurs’ £100million valuation for Kane, even if the England striker is said to have ruled out a move to Paris. Which may explain why Bayern Munich are feeling so chipper over their chances of landing the 29-year-old.

CHELSEA REBUFF HAMMERS AMID CAICEDO FRUSTRATION Chelsea are in dire need of midfielders yet still they are entertaining offers for Conor Gallagher.

The Evening Standard says Spurs and West Ham are leading the race for the England international. Indeed, the Hammers have seen a bid worth a total of £40million rejected by the Blues.

Chelsea’s stubbornness over Gallagher may stem from their frustration over Moises Caicedo. Brighton are holding firm in their £100million valuation and The Guardian says the Seagulls’ insistence on Levi Colwill being chucked in is also a sticking point at Stamford Bridge.
