Man Utd want a forward – or do they? – and Randal Kolo Muani had a strong World Cup on the periphery of the France squad. A €60m bid is incoming this month.

KOLO, KOLO KOLO, KOLO KOLO It’s been a decent season for Randal Kolo Muani. The forward joined Eintracht Frankfurt as a free agent in the summer after his contract with Nantes expired, with goals against Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen marking a successful transition to the Bundesliga. Kolo Muani has also thrived in Europe, scoring in 2-1 wins over Marseille and Sporting to help deliver Champions League knockout football to the Waldstadion for the first time in Frankfurt’s history.

This was, of course, all a precursor to a World Cup in which the 24-year-old was a semi-final goalscorer and a substitute who helped turn the tide for France in the final. Were it not for Emi Martinez’s left leg, Kolo Muani would have scored the winning goal in extra-time; he did at least convert in the shoot-out.

All of this has attracted the attention of Bayern Munich – this is a player doing well in Germany, after all – but also Man Utd. French newspaper L’Equipe suggest that a €60m bid is being prepared by the suits at Old Trafford.

The bad news is that Kolo Muani, who has only been with Frankfurt for a matter of months, is not ready to leave the Bundesliga just yet. Erik ten Hag might not be too devastated at that development after his striker backtrack.

LEAO SAYER Rafael Leao has also been mentioned regularly with regards to Man Utd by Sky Sport Italia have an interesting update.

They report on the ‘hope and confidence’ at Milan that they can persuade the forward to stay with a sizeable contract renewal offer. A deal worth €7m a year could be enough and ‘the will of the player’ is to remain with the club.

So for absolutely nothing.

FRENCH FANCY Arsenal are not messing about with such expensive or difficult transfers. They will crack on with what they’re doing, thank you very much, as it seems to be going rather well.

They have, for ‘several months’, been tracking Montpellier’s Elye Wahi. The forward celebrated his birthday on Monday but not before scoring against Lorient the previous weekend to become just the second player to score 20 Ligue Un goals before turning 20.

Juventus, Spurs, Man Utd, Manchester City and Liverpool are name-dropped by Foot Mercato but it is Arsenal who have ‘intensified’ their interest.

Despite that, the Gunners ‘have no plans’ to act. Their attack is well-stocked as things stand and Montpellier are no selling club, particularly not mid-season. The summer could well be a different matter, when bidding will start at at least €30m.
