Liverpool have been custard-pied over Teun Koopmeiners so they’ve switched focus to three other midfielders, while Chelsea are linked with a former Spurs talent…

WEGHORST READY TO PAY HIS OWN WAY TO MAN UTD On Monday, Besiktas issued a statement to insist that Wout Weghorst’s move to Manchester United is not as close as everyone seemed to think it was. Indeed, the Turkish club didn’t seem minded to allow it to happen at all.

So Weghorst is apparently ready to take matters into his own hands in order to become a United player, perhaps as soon as today.

The Daily Express is carrying a report from Turkey that suggests the Netherlands striker will put his hand in his own pocket to pay whatever compensation Besiktas were due for cutting short his loan spell. Earlier reports put that figure in the region of £2.5million.

LIVERPOOL FOLLOWING FULHAM STAR As badly as United require a centre-forward, Liverpool need a midfielder or two. Certainly one this month before whatever they have planned for Jude Bellingham in the summer.

The Reds were said to be keen to bring in Teun Koopmeiners to bolster their engine room. But reports in Italy suggest Atalanta have no intention of allowing the Dutchman to leave this month.

Football Transfers reckons Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram or Borussia Monchengladbach’s Kouadio Kone are next on Jurgen Klopp’s list, while Give Me Sport suggests a Premier League name…

Liverpool are said to still be keeping tabs on Joao Palinha. The Reds were linked with Portugal international last summer but instead he joined Fulham. Palinha has been a big hit at Craven Cottage and while he has been billed as a cheaper alternative for Liverpool, it’s hard to see why Fulham would sell their £20million recruit, especially while he has four-and-a-half years remaining on his deal.

CHELSEA EYE ENGLAND UNDER-21 FORWARD What of Chelsea and their desire to sign all the players this month? They have already bagged themselves three new talents and a deal to borrow Joao Felix is said to have been agreed with Atletico Madrid.

The Times says the Blues have no intention to stop at four. Next on their list of targets is Noni Madueke.

The Barnet-born forward is currently plying his trade with PSV Eindhoven having spent time with Tottenham as a youngster. Madueke is under contract for four more years in Eindhoven so he wouldn’t come cheap.

Marcus Thuram is likely to be available for rather less since his deal with Borussia Monchengladbach expires in the summer. Chelsea are said to have stepped up talks with the Bundesliga side to find an agreement that would earn Gladbach at least a few euros.
