Jarrad Branthwaite is enjoying a season away from Goodison Park at PSV, where the centre-back has made 20 appearances for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side. PSV wanted to buy the 20-year-old in January but Everton rejected two bids worth up to £15million.

The Dutch side might have missed their window because the Daily Mail reckons United and Liverpool are among the clubs sniffing around Branthwaite. Both will have scouts at PSV’s Europa League clash with Sevilla next week, when Roma will also be checking on the left-sided central defender.

LIVERPOOL AMONG TRIO TRACKING EX-CHELSEA TARGET Liverpool are also said to be among the clubs chasing Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez.

Chelsea spent much of last summer trying to sign the Mexican but Ajax refused to do business having already sold a glut of players following Erik ten Hag’s move to Manchester United. The Blues seem to have moved on to other targets – loads of them – but Alvarez could still secure a big move to the Premier League.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle have all been monitoring the 25-year-old. The Gunners enquired about a move in January but the Premier League leaders received no encouragement from Ajax. Liverpool certainly need midfielders, while the Newcastle link seems tentative at best, with Alvarez ‘at least loosely on their radar’.

It was revealed on Wednesday that the France keeper will miss at least six weeks, leaving Antonio Conte with Fraser Forster to mind his net.

The Mirror reckons Conte could move for another ex-England stopper to provide short-term cover. The story goes that Spurs will look to tempt Ben Foster out of retirement and off YouTube for a few weeks to sit on their bench while Lloris recovers. The 39-year-old left Watford at the end of last season and though he almost joined Newcastle to serve as back-up to Nick Pope, he opted to hang up his gloves instead.
