Bruno Fernandes made his 25th appearance for Manchester United on Saturday, scoring a winning penalty with the last kick of the match.

The Portugal international secured United’s first win of the season after a frustrating 3-1 defeat against Crystal Palace, the weekend previous, which cast a huge blow on our start to the campaign.

Fernandes had already provided Marcus Rashford with an assist for the forward’s excellent solo goal as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side beat Brighton 3-2. Although it would be a stretch to suggest the 26-year-old played brilliant, he still did enough to help United win the game. That’s his job in midfield.

However, Portuguese newspaper Record claim Fernandes’ 25th appearance for United tiggers another €5m clause which sees Sporting Lisbon benefit financially.

Record say the total now guaranteed is €63m for Sporting’s Fernandes sale.

Sporting have benefited already when United qualified for the Champions League, with Fernandes’ involvement earning the Portuguese club an additional €30m.

Something to consider when United brief net spending figures is how these ‘add-ons’ are not added.

Fernandes has 13 goals and 10 assists to his name since joining United earlier this year.
