Manchester City have officially announced the signing of Brazilian forward Savinho from sister-club Troyes.
The 20-year-old, who spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan in La Liga with the City Football Group’s Girona, has completed a permanent move from fellow CFG side ES Troyes to Manchester City.
The forward has spent the past month competing for Brazil at the Copa America in the United States, where the South American heavyweights were dumped out of the competition after a penalty shoot-out defeat to Uruguay in the quarter-finals.
Savinho was directly involved in 21 goals in 41 appearances for La Liga side Girona last season, scoring 10 goals and registering 11 assists for the Catalonian club across two competitions, and en route to a place in the UEFA Champions League for the forthcoming campaign.
The Brazilian moved to the City Football Group’s Troyes in 2022 from Atletico Mineiro but never made an appearance for the French side, moving to PSV Eindhoven prior to a season-long loan switch to Girona.
After Pep Guardiola’s side confirmed their first addition of the summer transfer window, here is everything you about the arrival of Savinho at the Etihad Stadium.
The 2004-born forward has moved to east Manchester on an initial five-year contract, with the transfer worth an initial £21M for Savio, potentially rising to £33.6M with add-ons.
Savinho will remain at the Etihad Stadium for the 2024/25 season despite initial suggestions that the Brazilian international could be sent out on loan for the upcoming campaign.
Speaking to ManCity.com, Savinho said, “I’m so happy to be joining Manchester City, the Premier League champions and Club World Cup winners. Everyone knows they are the best team in the world right now, so to be here is very exciting for me.
“I’m excited about the chance to work under Pep Guardiola, one of the greatest coaches ever, and someone I know will help me improve even more. I had an amazing time in Spain and I’m looking forward to a new challenge of playing in the Premier League and alongside some of the best players in the world.”
He continued, “I can’t wait to meet the fans and my new team-mates and hopefully be a part of bringing more success to City.”
Speaking to ManCity.com, Txiki Begiristain explained, “Savinho is a very exciting player and I think the City fans are really going to enjoy watching him. What he achieved last season at Girona was remarkable and he is already a full Brazil international.
“He has a big role to play for Manchester City this season and beyond. We are totally confident in his ability. He is still young and has the potential to become even better, and everyone knows that Pep is the best at helping players develop even further.”
Begiristain continued, “But he has already shown his huge quality and technical ability and is an exciting addition to our attacking area.”
Savinho has chosen the number 26 at Manchester City, succeeding Riyad Mahrez.
Manchester City have announced that Savinho will be unveiled to fans at an event in Manchester on Sunday 4 August, the same month in which the winger will arrive at the Etihad Stadium.
